An Introduction to Golf
As a program location of The First Tee of Greater Chicago, Glenwoodie participants will be introduced to The First Tee Life Skills Experience. Through this program young people around the world discover how skills essential to success on a golf course can also help them flourish in life. These skills include self-management, interpersonal communication, goal setting, mentoring, and effective conflict resolution.
GOLF AND LIFE SKILLS
The First Tee program is designed around teaching young people the game of golf, as well as helping them understand and ultimately develop The First Tee Nine Cre Values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgement. This curriculum was developed by experts in the field of positive youth development and is delivered by coaches trained through The First Tee.
LIFE SKILLS EXPERIENCE: The First Tee of Greater Chicago at Glenwoodie is open to all young people ages 7-17. Young people progress through the Life Skills Experience program by moving through levels that introduce new and more advanced conceps of golf and life skills. All participants begin at the PLAYer level regardless of age.
Our “Little Linkster” class is available for children ages 5-6.
Player (required minimum age 7)
Introduces playing the game of golf with special emphasis on learning golf and The First Tee Code of Conduct, appreciating the rules and etiquette of the game and developing a game plan for golf and life.
Par (recommended age 9)
Focuses on interpersonal communications and self-management skills.
Birdie (recommended age 11)
Emphasizes goal setting.
